I was really inspired by the latest chapter to write. This fic is based on this beautifully poignant, wordless pixiv comic, so please give it 10 stars and bookmark it!
Characters: same village trio (Bert, Reiner, Annie; pretty Bert/Annie-ish)
Length: ~1300 words
SPOILERS FROM CHAPTER 45+
Right next door, over the deep red fence is Reiner’s house. If Bert tiptoes and lifts himself a little, he can see Reiner waving to him from his open window, inside his room in the Braun family’s modest log cabin. It’s a simple, indisputable fact, the most concrete all of the knowledge he has acquired over his 10 years old living, that he and Reiner are the best of friends in the whole world. Being with Reiner is fun, and he couldn’t ask for more. But, every night, as the sun sinks lower and lower into the earth, far away where he couldn’t see it anymore, there is a clawing feeling in Bert’s heart and mind and soul—a swollen emptiness that he, as a meek child with eyes squeezed tight, sweat rolling down his chilled skin and hands clutched onto a worn out flashlight under his hand-me-down blanket, can never put into words.
